To provide that before the science curriculum

standards that are to be adopted by the State Board

of Education prior to December 31, 2002, may be

3

effective, those standards must be approved by a

4

concurrent resolution passed by both houses of the

5

General Assembly

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:

Section 1. The State Board of Education shall not adopt the	7
science standards prescribed in division (A)(1) of section	8
3301.079 of the Revised Code unless, by concurrent resolution,	9
those standards are approved by both houses of the General	10
Assembly. Before the House of Representatives or Senate votes on a	11
concurrent resolution approving the standards, its standing	12
committee having jurisdiction over education legislation shall	13
conduct at least one public hearing on the standards. The joint	14
hearing prescribed in division (F) of section 3301.079 of the	15
Revised Code satisfies the requirement for a public hearing under	16
this section so long as such hearing includes an opportunity for	17
testimony from the general public and interested parties.	18
