| To urge the President of the United States and the | 1 |
| United States Congress to secure our nation's | 2 |
| borders and to aggressively enforce all existing | 3 |
| federal immigration laws. | 4 |
| WHEREAS, It is the duty of the federal government to secure | 5 |
| the borders of the United States and to protect the security of | 6 |
| United States citizens; and | 7 |
| WHEREAS, Ohio welcomes immigrants and refugees who are | 8 |
| entering the United States legally; and | 9 |
| WHEREAS, The growing number of illegal immigrants currently | 10 |
| in the United States demonstrates that existing immigration laws | 11 |
| and enforcement measures are not sufficient to stop illegal | 12 |
| immigrants from crossing our borders; and | 13 |
| WHEREAS, Current federal immigration law and practices do | 14 |
| not adequately address illegal immigration and drain limited | 15 |
| local, state, and federal resources for educational, social | 16 |
| services, judicial, law enforcement, and penal systems, thereby | 17 |
| causing an economic hardship on the State of Ohio and our nation; | 18 |
| and | 19 |
| WHEREAS, Current federal immigration law and practices cause | 20 |
| our citizens to question, the federal government's ability to | 21 |
| secure our borders; and | 22 |
| WHEREAS, Current federal immigration law and practices have | 23 |
| caused Ohio citizens and the citizens of other states to look to | 24 |
| state and local government to solve immigration problems that | 25 |
| would be more adequately addressed by a comprehensive and vigorous | 26 |
| federal effort to secure our borders and to enforce current | 27 |
| immigration laws more effectively; now therefore be it | 28 |
| RESOLVED, That we, the members of the 127th General Assembly | 29 |
| of the State of Ohio, on behalf of the citizens of Ohio, urge the | 30 |
| President of the United States and the members of the United | 31 |
| States Congress to take swift action to enhance and enforce | 32 |
| federal immigration law in order to provide a comprehensive | 33 |
| national resolution to the illegal immigration problem that exists | 34 |
| in Ohio and throughout the nation, and that federal action | 35 |
| include, but not be limited to: | 36 |
| (1) Securing our nation's borders by stopping unlawful entry | 37 |
| that is now made by many means of transportation; | 38 |
| (2) Aggressively enforcing federal immigration laws that are | 39 |
| already in place; and | 40 |
| (3) Cooperating with the State of Ohio and other states in | 41 |
| order to address current problems faced in the states by the | 42 |
| illegal immigration that now exists; and be it further | 43 |
| RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit duly | 44 |
| authenticated copies of this resolution to the President of the | 45 |
| United States, the Speaker and Clerk of the United States House of | 46 |
| Representatives, the President Pro Tempore and the Secretary of | 47 |
| the United States Senate, the members of the Ohio Congressional | 48 |
| delegation, and the news media of Ohio. | 49 |
