borders and to aggressively enforce all existing 3
federal immigration laws.4

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF OHIO
(THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING):

WHEREAS, It is the duty of the federal government to secure 5
the borders of the United States and to protect the security of 6
United States citizens; and7

WHEREAS, Ohio welcomes immigrants and refugees who are 8
entering the United States legally; and9

WHEREAS, The growing number of illegal immigrants currently 10
in the United States demonstrates that existing immigration laws 11
and enforcement measures are not sufficient to stop illegal 12
immigrants from crossing our borders; and13

WHEREAS, Current federal immigration law and practices do 14
not adequately address illegal immigration and drain limited 15
local, state, and federal resources for educational, social 16
services, judicial, law enforcement, and penal systems, thereby 17
causing an economic hardship on the State of Ohio and our nation; 18
and19

WHEREAS, Current federal immigration law and practices cause 20
our citizens to question, the federal government's ability to21
secure our borders; and22

WHEREAS, Current federal immigration law and practices have 23
caused Ohio citizens and the citizens of other states to look to 24
state and local government to solve immigration problems that 25
would be more adequately addressed by a comprehensive and vigorous 26
federal effort to secure our borders and to enforce current 27
immigration laws more effectively; now therefore be it28

RESOLVED, That we, the members of the 127th General Assembly 29
of the State of Ohio, on behalf of the citizens of Ohio, urge the 30
President of the United States and the members of the United 31
States Congress to take swift action to enhance and enforce 32
federal immigration law in order to provide a comprehensive 33
national resolution to the illegal immigration problem that exists 34
in Ohio and throughout the nation, and that federal action 35
include, but not be limited to:36

       (1) Securing our nation's borders by stopping unlawful entry 37
that is now made by many means of transportation;38

       (2) Aggressively enforcing federal immigration laws that are 39
already in place; and40

       (3) Cooperating with the State of Ohio and other states in 41
order to address current problems faced in the states by the 42
illegal immigration that now exists; and be it further43
