A BILL
To enact section 5.091 of the Revised Code to adopt
the book M.C. Higgins, the Great, authored by
Virginia Hamilton, as the official youth
literature novel of the state and to designate
Virginia Hamilton as the official youth literature
author of the state.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
Section 1. That section 5.091 of the Revised Code be enacted
to read as follows:
Sec. 5.091. That children's book M.C. Higgins, the Great,
authored by Virginia Hamilton, is the official youth literature
novel of the state and Virginia Hamilton, longtime resident of
Yellow Springs, Ohio, and recipient of numerous awards, including
the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award, the Coretta Scott King Award,
the De Grummond Medal, the Hans Christian Andersen Medal, the
Laura Ingalls Wilder Award, the John Newbery Medal, the National
Book Award, the International Board on Books for Young People
Honor Book, the Jane Addams Children's Book Award, the Library of
Congress Best Books for Children, the MacArthur Fellowship Genius
Award, the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work for
Children, the New York Times Outstanding Children's Book of the
Year, the Ohio Humanities Council Richard Bjornson Distinguished
Service Award, the Ohioana Award, and the Ohio Governor's Award,
is the official youth literature author of the state.
