security agencies, and the United States
intelligence community in conducting the

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF OHIO (THE SENATE CONCURRING):
| WHEREAS, On September 11, 2001, the United States was
deliberately attacked by operatives from the al Qaeda terrorist
organization without regard for the sanctity of life and with the
utmost depravity. The attack left thousands dead in New York City,
Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania; and |
| WHEREAS, Al Qaeda is a militant Islamist group that advocates
global jihad against the West and the destruction of the state of
Israel. Al Qaeda has been linked to multiple terrorist attacks
against the United States and our allies, including the 1993 World
Trade Center bombing, the United States Embassy bombings in Kenya
and Tanzania, the bombing of the U.S.S. Cole, and the September
11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, as
well as numerous other attacks around the world; and |
| WHEREAS, The founder of al Qaeda and its leader during the
course of its history of violence was Osama bin Laden who, as
leader of al Qaeda's war of terror, advocated that civilians,
including women and children, are legitimate targets of jihad; and |
| WHEREAS, On May 1, 2011, forces from the United States,
including members of the United States Special Operations Forces
and national security agencies, attacked Osama bin Laden's
compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, killing him along with his son
and several other al Qaeda operatives; and |
| WHEREAS, The death of Osama bin Laden represents the
culmination of nearly ten years of efforts by the United States
Armed Forces and intelligence agencies as well as efforts of our
allies to bring Osama bin Laden to justice for the death and
destruction that he and his organization have wrought throughout
the world. Those efforts, most of which are not known or
recognized, are indicative of the courage, skill, determination,
and honor of the men and women who have undertaken them on behalf
of the citizens of the United States and freedom-loving people
throughout the world; now therefore be it |
| RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of
Representatives of the 129th General Assembly of the state of
Ohio, commend and honor the members of the United States Armed
Forces, including the United States Special Operations Forces, the
United States national security agencies, and the United States
intelligence community in conducting the successful operation
against Osama bin Laden on Sunday May 1, 2011; and be it further |
| RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives
transmit duly authenticated copies of this resolution to the
President of the United States, the Secretary of the Department of
Defense, and the news media of Ohio. |
